Titanic Commemorative Coins for Sale
Commemorative coins for the Titanic have been minted for many reasons. The first were medals, for the crew of the Carpathia, who had risked life and limb and a massive icefield in the early hours of the morning to reach the Titanic survivors. "The Unsinkable" Molly Brown, as she was to become known put out her hat for the collection. Captain Rostron was given a gold medal, his officers sliver, and the crew bronze. It was a thankyou, and not the last coins off the press.
Coins were minted to raise money for Titanic's survivors: those in third class, especially, who had lost everything when the ship had gone down. In New York the first collections began almost as soon as it was known that the ship sank. These coins continue to be minted today, usually on the anniversary of the sinking. You'll find many fine examples here.
